Service to Tuberculosis Patients
Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by bacteria that’s spread through air (air borne) from person to person through cough, sneeze etc. Among all mortality from infective diseases mortality in TB is the highest. India shares the highest burden of TB (25%) in the global TB load. Notification of all TB patients from all health care providers is made mandatory by Ministry of Health & Family welfare, GOI since 2012.
All patients who are suffering from cough for more than 2 weeks are screened for diagnosis of tuberculosis by conducting sputum test for acid-fast bacillus (AFB) – (Mycobacterium tuberculosis). Suspected TB cases (presumptive) pulmonary TB can be diagnosed by sputum microscopy (done in all UPHCs in OPDs), Chest X-Ray, CB NAAT (available in District TB Centre – District hospital-Howrah). Extra pulmonary TB cases may be diagnosed by respective diagnostic tools. Standard treatment of TB with fixed dose combination FDC (First Line ATD) may be given in DOTS strategy for six months.
Indoor facilities may be provided if required under doctors consultation, for under privilege group.
